What is really going on inside our heads when we are trying to be sexual? Sexual mind-sets have a strong impact on the ways in which we want to give and receive sexual touch. Understanding the various dimensions of sexual experience help expand on the conversation that your clients may be trying to have with each other. It also increases our ability to comprehend our own, our partner's, our clients' sexual responsiveness - and will help you understand why it is that your clients go off the tracks when fighting over whose definition of "good sex" should win out!

March 10, 2012 - Sexual Compulsivity: Effective Assessment and Intervention.
Presenter: Joseph Winn MSW, LICSW, CST
Sexual compulsivity, also referred to as sexual addiction, compulsive sexual behavior and problematic sexual behavior, is a complex and controversial syndrome that is often resistant to the best efforts of even the most seasoned clinicians. This workshop will provide participants with several theoretical models and intervention modalities, including their strengths and limitations, informing the understanding and treatment of compulsive sexual behavior. Particular emphasis will be placed on thorough clinical assessment, evaluating for differential diagnosis and co-morbid behaviors, conceptualizing compulsive sexual behavior from a developmental perspective and crafting treatment goals and interventions that matter to the client. Participants will be invited to explore how their values and attitudes towards eroticism, sexuality and treatment orientation influence how they conceptualize compulsive sexual behavior. This will program is approved for 6 AASECT CEs (provider #10-108H). Application for social work continuing education credits is pending.

April 27th - 29th, 2012 - SEXUAL ATTITUDE REASSESSMENT
Northampton Sex Therapy Associates and The Northampton Center for Couples Therapy in collaboration with The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health invites mental health professionals, students, health-care providers, and anyone interested in reflecting on and gaining awareness about sexuality-related issues to its Sexual Attitude Reassessment Seminar (SAR). The SAR will be a two and a half-day intensive seminar that, through media integration and a variety of interactive activities and discussions, assists participants in the self-evaluation of their feelings, values, and attitudes as these relate to the diversity of human sexual behavior.
The SAR is a basic requirement for those who wish to become certified as sexuality educators, counselors, or therapists, but it can also benefit people in a range of other professions. The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) suggests that this experience occur early in ones training so it can be most beneficial to ones understanding personal biases and values while working with sexually-diverse populations.
This program meets the attitude and values training requirement for certification by AASECT and is approved for 18.5 CE Credits (provider #10-108H). Application for 18.5 social work continuing education credits has been submitted. Please contact us at (401) 345-8685 for the status of social work CE accreditation.
